Freedom

Some quotes for my virtual community on freedom…  I have placed them in a particular order…  Feel free to add any quotes that expand on these thoughts…  After all, we are still figuring things out, yes?

“Our task must be to free ourselves from our prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all humanity and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ~Albert Einstein

“…our culture of consumption has promoted an addiction to stimulation – one that puts a premium on packaged and commodified stimulation. The market does this to convince us that our consumption keeps oiling the economy for it to reproduce itself. But the effect of this addiction to stimulation is an undermining, a waning of our ability for qualitatively rich relationships.” ~Dr. Cornell West

“If we can bear to face our longing instead of finding endless ways to keep satisfying it and trying to escape it, it begins to show us a glimpse of what lies behind the scenes.” ~ Peter Kingsley

“To restore the land one must live and work in a place.  To work in a place is to work with others.  People who work together in a place become a community, and a community, in time, grows a culture.  To work on behalf of the wild is to restore culture.” ~ Gary Snyder

“The knowledge that every animal, plant, person, wind, and season is indebted to the fruit of everything else is an adult knowledge”  ~ Martin Prechtel

“Every part of creation is indebted for its life to the other parts of creation that have died and decayed so that it might live.”  ~ Jessica Prentice

“…when we accept our utter dependency can we know the true meaning of freedom and power…”  ~ Jessica Prentice

  1. A “wish for freedom”: the freedom to choose foods free of GMOs resulting from required labeling of all foods with GMOs in them so we have the right of choice for what we eat. Our “free country” curiously deprives us of this very basic of all freedoms.
